Internship & Work Trade Description
The internship role will be a combination of work in the garden and greenhouse, on the forested acreage with the native ecosystem, and the lodge. This internship is best fit for someone with an interest in sustainable development; eco-tourism (airBnB guests); events planning (social media); permaculture; forest farming; gardening for food; restoring native plants; herbalism; and/or ecology; spirituality and nature retreats. The intern will gain hands-on experience helping to create a permaculture design that feeds the humans and animals that live here. See below for detailed areas of work. Interns will work with the Forest Sanctuary Director, Becca Nenow, and Executive Director, Kelly Clampitt.
Expectations
For a credit-seeking, college-level internship, 40 hrs/week for 10 weeks fulfills the college requirement.
For non-credit, college-level internships and work trades we ask 20 hrs/week. Flexible hours.
For a high school student, we ask four hours for one or two days per week.
Benefits
For a credit-earning, college-level internship and work trades, lodging during the internship is included with a food stipend of $100/week.
As part of the SCL community you can participate in our events at no cost (outside any materials fee from a facilitator). We hope you do join us as often as possible so that our relationship deepens.

Areas of Work
Below is a list of potential areas and example tasks where the intern will work.
Garden & Greenhouse: Seed trays, transplant, weed, organic soil treatments, watering as needed, harvest, pick blueberries, mushroom cultivation, innoculation, and harvest.
SCL Land: There are 70 acres of forest that need tasks like clearing trails, supporting native species, removing invasive species, moving firewood, mulching, keeping the roads clear for the Amigo and moving things around…You will use the mule to get around and make life easier on the land.
AirBnB Maintenance: Guest services at the main Lodge, Hobbit House, and Roadside Cabin: Turn over before the next scheduled guest, laundry, making beds, trash, sweep/vacuum floors, wipe bathrooms.
Events: Preparation and clean-up as needed. Often during events participants help with tasks needed before and after but sometimes the weather can delay putting the lodge away and often Kelly needs help.
Forest Medicinal Sanctuary: Management may include: planning and creation of new trails, signage locations, native plantings; Community outreach/marketing; Supporting the Sanctuary Director in the Summer Sanctuary Event outdoors, teaching about the forest, tending the forest together, and possibly making a craft, like flower essence, from the forest. Events could be one day or overnight.
